What to check before burning outdoors
Find the right agency, read its current notice, and check the rules for your activity.
Start with the location
Find out whether the property is inside a city, in an unincorporated part of a county, or on public or Tribal land. A mailing address alone may not identify the responsible fire authority. If you are unsure, ask the local fire department which office handles that address.
Check the official notice on the day
Open the official state or local source. Look for the effective date, the area covered, the activities restricted, and any exceptions. An old search result, saved screenshot, or past permit does not establish what is allowed today.
Describe what you want to burn
Ask about the actual activity: yard debris, a campfire, a fire pit, outdoor cooking, or another use. Rules for one activity do not automatically apply to another. Ask about permit requirements and air-quality restrictions as well as fire restrictions.
If you cannot get a clear answer
Do not treat missing information as permission. Contact the responsible agency or postpone the activity until you can confirm the requirements. This site cannot authorize a fire or assess conditions at your property.
